The use of preseason rankings as part of the BCS formula is one of many focal points of playoff advocates. They are correct in the assertion that it's ridiculous to rank teams based on past success and a little knowledge of returning players, but these people want the preseason rankings completely done away with. I'll agree that they should be removed from the BCS equation, but they forget the reason why the rankings exist in the first place. The rankings were developed among media members throughout the nation to create excitement, stir up discussion, and debate your favorite teams over a beer. Simple as that. I'll forever love the rankings and the preseason ones have a special place in my heart. Nothing beats pulling up your favorite news source and seeing what the pundits think of your favorite team and teams you love to hate. With that said, here is my Top 25 and the 5 that just missed the cut heading into the 2012 season.
