"Honey badger don't give a sh*t!"

Wish I could say I'm surprised, but the dismissal of Tyrann Mathieu isn't a shocker.  He's had a history of failed drug tests that resulted in a one game suspension last season, and his bi-polar twitter feed has caused some issues.  The decision to leave him home from the SEC media days raised some eyebrows, but appears to be a brilliant move by Les Miles.  Coaches normally bring their star players to the preseason media day events, but questions arose when arguably the most popular player in the nation was left in Baton Rouge.  Speculation  revolved around indications that his persona would be a distraction, but with this week's announcement, I think there was an internal debate over how to deal with another violation of team rules.

Since the Penn State scandal, light has been shed on the larger-than-life, more-important-than-school mentality that major university athletic departments have in regards to their football programs.  LSU made a bold, and correct, move in dismissing Tyrann for what most believe to be another failed drug test.  He's the best player in the nation on the best team in the nation, kicking him off the team weeks before the start of the season was a gutsy move by Miles.  Hopefully, this is the first of a long line of more attention gaining disciplinary actions by major football programs.  But this is all hear say and speculation, so let's move on.

The "Honey Badger" was considered a first to second round draft pick if he decided to declare early for the 2013 NFL draft.  His potential appears to be limitless, but can the kid get his head straight?  He has the opportunity now to transfer anywhere in the nation from the FCS to the FBS.  I see him transferring to an FCS school in the south, staying in game shape, dominating the competition, and declaring for the draft in April.  His removal from LSU is certainly a blow for both him and the Tigers, but certainly doesn't damn either one.

In honor of his on-the-field accomplishments take a look at the viral video that nicknamed the player, and this 2011 highlight mix reel:
